Orthotic materials heating guide

Below are guidelines for heating various plastics and rigid materials used in orthotic manufacture. These are only guidelines and care should be taken with different branded materials and copy materials which can be unstable.

Polydur Polymethyl Methacrylate Modified

- Oven Temperature: 170°C
- Resiliant Orthotic Material
- A replacement for Plexidur/Rohadur


Europlex Polytrimethyl Hexamethyl Enterephthalamide

- Oven Temperature: 170°C.
- Another replacement for Plexidur/Rohadur


Polypropylene Copolymer Polypropylene

- Oven Temperature: 180-200°C
- Oven Time at 180°C is 3 minutes per mm


Polyethylene LD Low Density Polyethylene

- Oven Temperature: 130°C
- Oven Time at 130°C 3 minutes per mm


Polyethylene HD High Density Polyethylene

- Oven Temperature: 180°C
- Oven Time at 180°C is 3 minutes per mm


Vitrathene Press Moulded Polythene

- Oven Temperature: 160°C
- Oven Time at 160°C 3 minutes per mm


Madrilen 1000

Press Moulded Polythenes

- A Ultra-highmolecular weight
- Oven Temperature: 160-180°C



Madrilen 500

Press Moulded Polythenes

- A Highmolecular weight
- Oven Temperature: 160-180°C



Transpet (PETG) Extruded Transparent Polyester Sheet

- Oven Temperature: 160°C
- Heat to 100°C for 15 minutes before draping


Surlyn Low Density Co-polymer

- Oven Temperature: 180-190°C


Starflex Resin Blank for Foot Orthotics

- Boiling Water: 95-100°C or ‘spot’ heat with a hot air gun


Algecast Low Temperature Thermoplastic

- Based mainly on Polycaprolactone and Polyurethane.
- The materials activated by placing in Hot Water at 70°C or steam at 90°C


Baycomp XStal Glass Resin - 8 ply

- Thickness: 2.8mm Composite Panels
- Xstal Panels Oven Temperature: 200°C


XT Sprint Foot Orthotic System

- Oven Temperature: 200°C
- Oven Time at 200°C is 3-5 minutes dependent on the thickness


Plastazotes & Evazotes Oven Temperature:

- 70-120°C (Dependent on Density)
- Oven time at 120°C is 3 minutes per mm


EVA and Micro Materials Oven Temperature

- Low Densities 120-130°C
- Medium-High Densities 130-170°C
- Oven time at 130°C 3 minutes per mm
