The
Phil Jenkins Memorial Cup Leeds 2005
This years’ event took place at Goals football
centre in Leeds in temperatures of up to 90 degrees. It was an
extremely hot day, which made play conditions pretty demanding
but most players showed just how fit the Orthotics industry is
and got stuck-in from the whistle.
The format of this year’s competition was
different from previous years due to the number of teams who dropped
out of the tournament last minute - you know who you are! Instead
of it usual knockout structure, a league system was used where
each team played each other, earning 3 points for a win and 1
point for a draw. The two teams who finished top of this league
battled out in a final.
Most games on the day were fiercely contested,
but after a slow start the Algeos team started to gel and became
the tournament’s team to beat. After drawing their 1st game
against RSL, the Algeos boys got better and better, beating all
the other teams by at least 2 goals. They deservedly made it through
to the final to face the only side that held them, RSL Steeper.
The day ended with the teams (and Talar Made’s
adoring fans!) enjoying some cold beers, before James Sheridan
presented the trophy to delighted Algeos captain Sean Large. “After
losing the final last year to Trust Orthotics, its great to bring
the cup back home to Liverpool. Another one for Algeos trophy
cabinet!” said Sean.
