The Phil Jenkins
Memorial Cup Liverpool 2007
The sun was glorious at this year’s football
tournament, but one team in particular shone, achieving their
first ever tournament win. Talar Made beat Langer in a close final
to be crowned this year’s champions.
The tournament took place at the Power League Football Centre
in Liverpool on a warm July day, but the sun was no match for
the talent of the players who took to the pitch like pros.

The 2007 Teams Line Up
Eight teams attended this year’s event and were organized
into two groups of four. The teams then went head to head in a
15 minute match, with the top two teams of each group competing
against each other in the final.
Most games on the day were fiercely competitive, proving that
everyone was most definitely in it to win it.
The opening match of Group A, was RSL v Exolite. Group B hosts
Algeos drew their derby match 2-2 against 2004 champions Trust
Orthotics in a tight contest. After impressive performances in
their respective groups, Langer, Talar Made, Trust Orthotics and
Foothealthcare.com were emerging as the tournament’s outstanding
teams as they secured their places in the final four.
After two brilliantly played semi finals, both Talar Made and
Langer made their debuts against each other in the final.
As anticipated the final was very close, each team creating their
chances to win the game. However after a bit of magic from Talar
Made, the team won the final with a 1-0 score, claiming their
first tournament victory.
The event drew to a close with the teams cooling off with a few
beers. Algeos M.D George Jones presented the trophy to the delighted
Talar Made captain.
