Role:
"The fitting and maintenance of prosthetic and orthotic
appliances (orthoses and prostheses), cosmetic body restoration
and orthopaedic foot appliances".
Scope of work:
The
orthotic technician makes orthoses from drawings, measurements
and plaster casts using a variety of materials, such as
metals, plastics, leathers and fabrics.
He/she may also:
assist the Prosthetist/Orthotist in casting of patients
construction and maintaintenace prosthetic/orthotic appliances
selection and/or adjustment of correct orthopaedic footwear
to ensure proper.
maintenance of inventory products
scheduling patients for departmental staff
administration and the computation of charges for departmental
services
provision of patient education in relevant areas if/when
necessary
NOTE: Please note that the above list is not exhaustive
in that the role the technician will undoubtedly vary
from organisation to organisation
